A ganglion cyst is a noncancerous fluid-filled lump that typically develops along tendons or joints in the hand or wrist. The exact cause is unclear but may result from joint or tendon irritation or injury. Ganglion cysts are often painless but can cause discomfort or interfere with hand and wrist function if they press on nearby nerves or restrict movement.
